As we wind down 2017, it’s time to take a look at the most popular recording artists of the year. If you’ve been following the music scene at all, you are likely to not exactly be shocked with who has made the list. At the same time, there are some artists that have shown some real staying power as they have managed to be among the best of the best year in and year out. There’s no reason to think these artists couldn’t be right at the top of the list for 2018 either.
While she didn’t release an album in 2017, she did release one in 2016 and that certainly carried her towards the top of the charts for months to come. Her album, “Lemonade” was greeted with quite a bit of excitement when it was officially released and her fan base ate it up. These days, she’s making news for releasing a new Holiday merchandise line than she is making music, but it’s a safe bet she’ll be rising back up the charts in 2018 before too long.
Taylor Swift has been one of the most popular recording artists in the world since she first set foot on the scene. In 2017, unlike Beyonce, she brought a brand new album that took some of the focus off her love life and put it where it belongs, on her music. Reputation was a critical hit, though it wasn’t quite as big as what we saw from it’s predecessor that was released all the way back in 2014 in “1989.” Still, Swift isn’t losing any steam when it comes to her followers and she will likely be one of the biggest and most loved musicians in 2018 as well.
Like Beyonce, Mars did not release a new album in 2017, but he’s managed to stay at or near the top of 2017 charts thanks to the 2016 release of “24K Magic.” Since Mars has burst onto the scene, he’s enjoyed massive popularity of both his new and older songs.
Sheeran has had a very steady career, but it’s entirely possible he finally hit super star status for the first time in 2017. Sheeran had a number of different songs explode onto the scene this year. Sheeran even became such a massive star that when he did a cameo on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” people noticed it immediately. Among the most popular has to be his “Shape of You” which has had some real staying power on the charts.
Katy Perry just keeps churning out huge hits and 2017 was no different. On her album “Witness,” Perry had some super catchy tunes come out such as “Hey Hey Hey” and “Power.” She certainly has the power to be one of the biggest recording artists in the industry for exactly as long as she wants. Her fans are going to get her to the top of this list every year.
Who do you think will emerge in 2018? Lets hope some up and coming artists make major waves.
